This year, we celebrated our tenth anniversary and we couldn’t have done it without our partners! They really are our partners, old and new, and we want to say a big thank you for their support, advice and ongoing friendship. Read on to hear who our partners were this year and how they contributed to the event (plus, maybe you’d like to be a partner yourself next year?)
We are delighted TEDxAmsterdam partner Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) joined the network this year. As a global leader in IT services, TCS combines tech expertise and business intelligence to catalyze change and deliver results. TCS is also a community driven organisation, and this combination of technical prowess and social concern turns out to be an excellent match with TEDxAmsterdam! This year, they were actively involved in the TEDxAmsterdam Award process – hosting one of our team meetings, and showcasing a groundbreaking healthcare technology innovation at our event. The TCS Digital Skin Twin Platform uses multiscale modeling and virtual reality (VR) for transdermal pharmaceutical and cosmetics delivery. Check out how their experience of the event here.
We are of course also very grateful with the continued support of our most loyal partners!
Clifford Chance, one of the world's pre-eminent law firms, has been actively involved in the TEDxAmsterdam Award – offering solid business advice to contestants – for the last six years. They also provided us with unlimited use of their meeting rooms, so many of the TEDxAmsterdam plans originate at their beautiful office in downtown Amsterdam. During the event, delegates could make use of their free refill coffee mugs and sip hot drinks seated on Clifford cushions.
Schiphol Real Estate has also been with us for many years. Schiphol Real Estate is one of the most accessible and dynamic places in Europe, and we are delighted they organise a TEDxAmsterdam Salon each year.
Another new partner we are very happy to have is the Oranje Fonds, an endowed foundation and the largest in the area of social welfare in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Oranje Fonds aims to promote participation in society through small-scale community initiatives, mentoring projects for young people, and language programmes. At the event, some of the social entrepreneurs from their network joined the BigXBrainstorm, prompting our audience to think about a range of future matters. We look forward to expanding our relationship in the coming years.
For our 10th anniversary edition, we also received support from long-time partner AFK, The Amsterdam Fund for the Arts. AFK invests in the arts, which enriches the experience of life in the city of Amsterdam, encouraging quality, dynamism and diversity of the arts, and contributing to the city's rich cultural climate.
We are proud that TEDxAmsterdam plays a role in this wonderful mission!
Our partners do not only help us with the cost of the event, we also have many partners who help us by providing services free of charge. We see them as part of the team, and want to thank them all!
An incredible job was done by our production partner Events in Business. Together with our team of volunteers they once again made sure that everything came together at the event. From the main stage program to the 10 TEDxAmsterdam shows to the experiences in the foyers, they were with us every step of the way.
They had great technical support from BeamSystems, a supplier for audiovisual installations with an extensive network in the cultural, creative and corporate sectors, and also the founders of BeamLab (visual inventions). They cooperated with Chain, which is the leading Dutch company for live audio, visuals, lighting and rigging.
Thanks also to our partner Summit, the registration process went smoothly. How great to have guests warmly welcomed while their badges were printed!
This year, we hosted no less than 10 TEDxAmsterdam shows as part of the program, and we were so lucky to have Made.com supply all of the beautiful furniture we needed.
Our mobility partner Taxi Electric made sure everyone was transported safely and in a sustainable manner.
Our favourite venue in all of Amsterdam (and long-time partner) is the newly renamed International Theater Amsterdam. They have been very generous with their support and partnered up with us in production, program and planning.
Creative partner WE ARE Pi made a stunning video for our 10th edition - we have worked with them before and love their work! In North we found a new partner who really helped us with all our visual communication – and we had a lot! Based in South Africa and Amsterdam they specialise in brand stories, systems and experience. Thank you so much!
Our livestream and other video content was made possible by our long-time partner Level V and We are Live. Huge compliments to their great team of professionals. To get an idea of their work, check the aftermovie or see the playlist of 2018 talks! They partnered up with Hoens Creative and Miltenburg AV, who we thank for providing video of the highest quality year after year!
Aan Zee was responsible for creating our great new website and app! They also offered great help regarding communications and contributed to the TEDxAmsterdam award by offering their expertise. High5! hosted our website and Toscani developed our database.
We also had a whole team of photographers running around the venue capturing amazing moments. Thank you so much for making this happen Flickfeeder and team!
Speaking of media and visibility...if you walked around Amsterdam in November, it was really hard to miss us! TEDxAmsterdam promotions were seen throughout the city on the screens of NGage Media, Exterion Media, CS Digital Media and Beyond Outdoor. We are talking about huge screens at central locations, almost all of the digital outdoors belonged to us for a moment!
A lot of ideas for the event come to life at Spaces, the co-working space we call home. This year they also organised a wonderful TEDxAmsterdam Salon bringing together TEDxAms speakers and acts and their community of international professionals.
And that is not the only hotspot where the TEDxAmsterdam network could be found. At the landmark A’DAM & Co. great things happened this year, all with the most spectacular view of our city. They welcomed us for meetings, our first partner event and a wonderful networking get together, where we premiered the videos young filmmakers created for our tenth anniversary.
The smartest part of our city is the Science Park, and we are delighted that the local hub Startup Village has joined us as a Knowledge Partner – offering free use of their venue to the TEDxAmsterdam Award team.
We also are thrilled to have new friends in the hotel business. The QO Amsterdam offers a fine sustainable hotel experience (with their own greenhouse on the top floor!) and was the perfect spot for our international speakers and guests. The Amsterdam Renaissance Hotel includes the marvellous and historic 17th-century Koepelkerk venue, where we held a second partner event – including a rare concert on the 1830 organ.
And we had a great team night at Brewery De Prael - where they combine working with people facing obstacles in the job market, with brewing beer. We love social initiatives that work out so well (and their beer too!).
Each year, some of our partners come with gifts.
One of them was a special experience. We started the morning with a greatly energizing ‘Secret Sunrise’ experience, provided by Energy Up, which meant everyone could start their TEDxAmsterdam refreshed and ready to take on the day.
One gift you could take home. For the 7th year, publisher Business Contact made sure one of last year’s talks was translated and printed in a great booklet, which we handed out to all delegates. This year, Jim Stolze was added to this wonderful series of publications! And like every year, our friends from the American Book Centre set up a bookstore featuring publications by our speakers.
And if you were lucky, you got some of the many delicious gifts to consume at the venue! We had delicious cakes made by De Drie Graefjes, Amsterdam cookies called Eberhardjes, and fresh beers by Grolsch. And our chocolates was ethical and delicious thanks to Tony Chocolonely.
Our Friends of TEDxAmsterdam also received very special gifts. Like a lovely Tommy Hilfiger umbrella, or the ultimate gift of silence and concentration, thanks to Knops ("analog noise-reducing earbuds’’) and BLOCK ("a faraday cage to take your dinner party offline.’’). Are you still looking for a perfect Xmas gift? Just sayin’.
Do you see yourself among these names next year?
We're looking forward to our next edition in 2019, proudly working together with our partners. If your company or organisation wants to support TEDxAmsterdam, let us know – we’d love to find a way to collaborate!
Drop a line to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be in touch!
